The basic conversion

100 gauge equals 1 mil. One mil equals 25.4 microns. Therefore, gauge x 0.254 = microns. 80 gauge is about 20.3 microns, 90 gauge is about 22.9 microns and 100 gauge is 25.4 microns.

Thickness is not the whole specification

A 20 micron film from one supplier may not behave the same as another 20 micron film. Resin formulation, stretch performance, puncture resistance, cling and winding quality affect load performance.

Write both units when needed

If your purchasing team works in gauge but your supplier quotes microns, state both on the purchase order and identify the controlling unit. That reduces receiving confusion and makes repeat orders cleaner.
