BINGOPLAS MACHINE FILM BUYER GUIDE

Stretch Film Machine Selection Guide

Choose machine stretch film by wrapper fit, carriage settings and verified load containment, not gauge alone. Start with your current roll specification and test the proposed grade on representative pallets.

Pallet wrapping equipment is not film manufacturing equipment.

A pallet wrapper applies film to goods; an extrusion or rewinding line produces or converts film. This guide helps warehouses select film for wrapping equipment.

WRAPPER COMPATIBILITY

Match machine stretch film to the wrapper and load.

Select film by carriage capability, roll fit and a representative pallet trial. Turntable or rotary-arm construction alone does not prescribe a gauge.

Decision pointOperating considerationConfirm before ordering
Turntable wrapperThe load rotates during wrapping; evaluate stability and rotation speed.Load stability, machine capacity, carriage setting, core and roll diameter.
Rotary-arm wrapperThe load remains stationary while the arm moves around it.Arm clearance, carriage setting, load profile and actual containment.
Powered pre-stretch carriageFilm is elongated between rollers before reaching the load.Quoted grade compatibility with the actual ratio, tension and speed.
Brake / friction carriageFilm tension is controlled differently from powered pre-stretch.Film delivery, tension consistency, corner tearing and load deformation.

No universal maximum pallet weight or pre-stretch percentage is claimed. Follow the wrapper manufacturer's instructions and validate containment and film consumption on your own loads.

THICKNESS & DENSITY

Stretch film gauge, mil and micron conversion.

80 gauge equals 0.80 mil or 20.32 microns. These are thickness conversions, not load-capacity or puncture-resistance ratings.

Decision pointMilMicronsCalculation basis
60 gauge0.6015.24Nominal thickness; confirm measured tolerance
70 gauge0.7017.78Nominal thickness; confirm measured tolerance
80 gauge0.8020.32Nominal thickness; confirm measured tolerance
100 gauge1.0025.40Nominal thickness; confirm measured tolerance
120 gauge1.2030.48Nominal thickness; confirm measured tolerance

U.S. plastic-film convention: 100 gauge = 1 mil. 1 mil = 25.4 microns. Roll-weight estimates here assume density 0.92 g/cm3 (920 kg/m3); this is not a certified density for every grade. Use the quoted grade's measured density when available.

Validate a film change in three steps.

Approve a film grade only after a controlled trial meets your load-containment requirements.

01

Check physical fit.

Match film width, core inside diameter, roll diameter and roll weight to the machine manual before loading a roll.

02

Document the settings.

Record pre-stretch, tension, cycle speed, overlap and top/bottom wraps. Check roller condition and film threading before diagnosing breaks.

03

Compare successful pallets.

Measure film used per pallet, breaks, rewraps and load condition under comparable conditions. Calculate film cost per successful pallet, not just roll price.

Use measured consumption for cost comparisons.

Film cost per pallet equals price per unit of net film weight multiplied by measured film used per pallet. Keep labor, rewrap and damaged-load costs separate when comparing total operating cost.

Use the roll-weight calculator for specification estimates and the cost-per-pallet calculator for trial comparisons.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Machine selection questions.

Does stretch film machine mean a pallet wrapper or a film production line?

The term can mean either. This guide covers selecting film for pallet wrappers; extrusion and rewinding lines manufacture or convert film. BINGOPLAS supplies stretch film, and this page is not an equipment sales offer.

Can I choose machine film by gauge alone?

No. Confirm core size, roll diameter, width, grade, carriage capability and performance on representative loads. Thickness alone does not establish containment or load capacity.

What does 200% pre-stretch mean?

Using elongation relative to the original length, 200% pre-stretch turns 1 meter into 3 meters; 250% turns it into 3.5 meters. Check how your wrapper manual defines its displayed ratio. Nominal settings do not prove actual applied stretch or guaranteed savings.

How do I request compatible machine film from BINGOPLAS?

Send your wrapper brand and model, carriage type, current settings, roll specification, load photos and delivery ZIP code. Confirm the quoted grade with a sample trial before changing your film program.
