Choosing Stretch Film for LA Port Transloading and Cross-Docking
Port-zone loads may be re-palletized, mixed, stored temporarily and handled several times before final delivery. Film selection should begin with those handling conditions.
Document the inbound load
Record pallet weight, overhang, crushed cartons, sharp edges, mixed case sizes and whether the load must be rebuilt. Photos and current film labels help suppliers understand the real problem.
A heavy-duty label alone does not identify the right grade. Cast, blown and high-performance films should be reviewed against puncture exposure, wrapper capability and containment.
Separate identification from containment
Colored stretch film can support route, customer, status or exception identification. Opaque film can add concealment. Neither automatically increases containment.
Confirm whether labels and barcodes must remain visible, then validate color, opacity, gauge, cling and puncture performance on the load.
