BINGOPLAS BUYER GUIDE

Pre-stretched vs. standard stretch film.

The key difference is when and how the film is stretched. That difference can affect application effort, roll handling and process consistency, but the better option must still be validated on the buyer's actual load.

START WITH THE PROCESS

Neither format is automatically right for every load.

Pre-stretched film is stretched before the finished roll is supplied. Standard stretch film develops its applied stretch and tension during wrapping. Film construction, application method and load requirements determine the result.

VIEW PRE-STRETCHED FILM
P

Consider pre-stretched film when

Lower application effort or a more repeatable manual process is a priority and the chosen film fits the load.

S

Consider standard film when

The current hand or machine process is designed to create the required stretch and containment during application.

01

Define “better” first

Choose measurable goals such as load stability, puncture reduction, film use, labor time or cycle consistency.

02

Compare on the same load

Use the normal wrap pattern and handling route, then record film use and the final load condition.

BUYER COMPARISON

How the two film formats differ.

The descriptions below are general selection guidance. Product design and performance vary, so confirm the exact specification and intended application before purchase.

Decision pointPre-stretched filmStandard stretch film
Condition when suppliedThe film has been stretched before it is wound into the finished roll. The film is supplied without that production prestretch step and is stretched to some degree during application.
Application effortMay require less pulling force in a compatible manual application, depending on the product and wrap method.Application tension and stretch are created by the operator or wrapping equipment.
Process consistencyCan reduce some operator-to-operator variation, but overlap, tension, wrap pattern and training still matter.Consistency depends strongly on operator technique or machine controls, film delivery and settings.
Important fit checksConfirm hand or machine format, roll dimensions, core, usable tension, load edges and required holding behavior.Confirm hand or machine format, stretch capability, roll construction, equipment settings and target containment.
How to compareMeasure film used, labor or cycle time, breaks, rewraps and load condition after handling.Use the same measures on the same load and normal process; compare total cost per acceptable wrapped load.

Avoid comparing roll price alone. Roll length, usable film, application labor, equipment time, breakage, rewraps and containment results all influence the operating cost.

RUN A FAIR TRIAL

Use one load, one target and recorded results.

01

Set the baseline

Record the current film specification, film used per load, application time, wrap pattern, damage or failures and handling route.

02

Control the variables

Trial both candidates on comparable loads with trained operators or documented machine settings and the same acceptance criteria.

03

Review the full cost

Compare film consumption, labor or cycle time, breaks, rewraps, handling performance and the percentage of acceptable loads.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Pre-stretched film selection questions.

Does pre-stretched film always use less material?

Not in every application. The result depends on the chosen film, wrap pattern, overlap, operator technique or equipment settings, load profile and acceptance criteria. Compare film used per successfully contained load in a controlled trial.

Is pre-stretched film only for manual wrapping?

Pre-stretched film is available in different formats. Confirm whether a particular roll is designed for hand use or a specific machine application, and verify roll dimensions, core and equipment compatibility before use.

Can standard and pre-stretched films be compared by gauge alone?

No. The supplied thickness, stretching history, film design and application behavior differ. Compare the complete specification and performance on the same load under the same process conditions.
